Harlan Swim Club awarded $500 Matching-Funds Grant from FMCTC

December 9th, 2017

Harlan Swim Club, a new youth swimming program in Harlan, recently was named the recipient of a Matching-Funds Grant in the amount of $500 from Farmers Mutual Cooperative Telephone Company of Harlan, Iowa. The grant was used to aid the Harlan Swim Club to purchase a portable swim starting block through funds from the grant, a private donation, and Harlan Swim Club funds.

Coach Amber Schmitz said, “This starting block will help our swimmers develop skills for competition and allow us to gain experience for future meets. We are grateful to FMCTC and our private donor for their assistance in helping us to purchase the block.”

The Harlan Swim Club was formed in 2017 to allow swimmers from Harlan and surrounding areas to have an opportunity to swim competitively in the fall and winter months. Swimmers range from age 5 to 18 and the team competes in the Greater Iowa Swim League (GISL). The club is coached by Amber Schmitz, Matt Schmitz, Deb Morgan, Braydi Smith, and Madi Schumacher. Harlan Swim Club has 51 swimmers for the 2017-18 season. Schedules, results and other details can be found at www.harlanswim.com.
